The Respighi Prize has been established to encourage and offer a performance opportunity for young talented composers and soloists through the inspiration of Ottorino Respighi’s music. / Il Premio Respighi e’ stato istituito per incoraggiare e offrire un’opportunita’ di esecuzione a giovani compositori e solisti di talento, ispirandosi alla figura e all’opera di Ottorino Respighi.
The Competition and Ottorino Respighi / Il Concorso e Ottorino Respighi
The Chamber Orchestra of New York was established for leading young professionals, and to promote the music of renowned composer Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936) alongside the orchestral repertoire. Known for his Roman trilogy (including Pines of Rome), Respighi’s orchestral works are considered the culmination of the Italian symphonic repertoire. Equally important, Respighi embraced the continuity of tradition with a love of the ancient world, a respect for antiquity, and thereby promoted a renaissance of musical ideas within the context of late 19th and 20th century elements. / La Chamber Orchestra of New York e’ stata istituita per giovani musicisti emergenti, e per promuovere, accanto al repertorio tradizionale, la musica del celebre compositore Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936). Famoso per la sua trilogia romana, con le sue opere orchestrali Respighi si colloca al culmine del repertorio musicale sinfonico Italiano. Allo stesso tempo, Respighi ha rappresentato la continuita’ della tradizione con il costante riferimento al mondo antico, il rispetto per l’antichita’, contribuendo a un rinnovamento delle idee musicali nel contesto del tardo diciannovesimo e ventesimo secolo.

Eligibility / Requisiti di ammissione
The Respighi Prize competition is open to young composers and soloists (instrumental and vocal) under 40 years of age, of all nationalities, currently enrolled in (or recent graduates of) music conservatory or college (including preparatory or post-certificate programs) from all over the world. / Il Premio Respighi e’ aperto ai giovani compositori e solisti (strumento e voce) che non abbiano compiuto 40 anni, di ogni nazionalita’, attualmente iscritti (o diplomati) nei conservatori musicali o altre scuole universitarie di musica (inclusi gli anni pre-corso universitario o post-laurea).

2. Short essay explaining their composition, and how their composition may be inspired by (and/or programmed with) the music of Ottorino Respighi. / Breve testo che illustri la composizione e come essa si ispira alla musica di Ottorino Respighi.
3. List of works, and any related premieres. / Lista di composizioni, ed eventuali esecuzioni.

Preference will be given to composers & soloists without or limited experience with professional orchestras. / Preferenza data a compositori e solisti senza o con poco esperienze con altre orchestre professioniste.

Deadline / Scadenza
All materials must be postmarked no later than May 31, 2011 for consideration in the 2012-2013 concert season. 2. Applicants waive all rights for publication, broadcasting, and recording of their premiere and/or performance. (Composition remains property of the composer.) / Gli aspiranti non possono avanzare alcuna pretesa per pubblicazione, trasmissione televisiva/radiofonica, o registrazione della prima esecuzione e/o esibizione. (Le composizioni rimangono proprieta’ del compositore.)
3. The decisions of the Jury are final. / Le decisioni della Giuria sono inappellabili.
4. The Jury reserves the right to not select a winner. / La Giuria si riserva il diritto di non proclamare il vincitore.
5. The Jury, Artistic Director and Board of the Competition and Chamber Orchestra of New York make no representation that the production will not infringe any copyrights of third parties. / La Giuria, il Direttore Artistico ed il Comitato del Concorso e la Chamber Orchestra of New York non danno alcuna garanzia che la produzione non vada a ledere eventuali copyright di terzi.
6. Award / Premio
Finalists and Winners will be notified by letter in the spring. / I finalisti ed i vincitori saranno informati per lettera in primavera.
Composition Competition Winner receives / Il Vincitore Composizione riceve:
1. Certificate Award as Winner of The Respighi Prize in Composition. / Certificato con il titolo Vincitore del Premio Respighi in Composition.
2. World Premiere of composition with the Chamber Orchestra of New York. / Prima esecuzione assoluta della composizione con la Chamber Orchestra of New York.
3. Recording of the concert, for archive and promotional use. / Registrazione del concerto, per uso archivio e promozionale.
Soloist Competition Winner receives / Il Vincitore Solista riceve:
1. Certificate Award as Winner of The Respighi Prize in (Voice or Instrument). / Certificato con il titolo Vincitore del Premio Respighi (in Voce o Strumento).
2. Performance as featured soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of New York. / Concerto come solista ospite con la Chamber Orchestra of New York.
3. Recording of the concert, for archive and promotional use. / Registrazione del concerto, per uso archivio e promozionale.
